So, he appeals to the other men in the county to unite with him, forming the Rosedale Men's Quitling Club. Just Like Josh Gibson by Angela Johnson is an inspiring story about a young girl growing up in the 1940's aspiring to play baseball like her hero, Josh Gibson. The dream began from birth, when her papa showed up at the hospital with a Louisville slugger, and culminated with her having the opportunity to play in one game with the boys. And, Grandmama is sharing her story with her granddaughter.

Sibley reads The Bus Ride by William Miller
Sara and her mother ride the bus every day. They also ride the bus with parents going to work and children going to school, but African Americans aren't allowed to sit in the front.
One morning, Sara decides to see what she's missing by sitting at the back of the bus. She moves up to the front and sets off a commotion through out the city. Sara discovers her courage of her own convictions. This story is a reminder for young readers that people of all ages can fight for justice.~ Mary Jo

Winter begins on or about December 21.This book explains what the winter solstice is and how it has been celebrated by various cultures throughout history. Some celebrate by exchanging gifts and decorating their houses with evergreens. People believed that the evergreens would bring strength to their families. SWCC is reading: The Polar Express
The Polar Express is always a winner, as Christmas days get closer the students are always excited to read this book.
This enchanting book tells the story of a little boy who believes in Santa Claus, although his friends say that he does not exist.Because of his faith, he is taken on a magical journey to the North Pole aboard the Polar Express, where he is given a very special gift: a beautiful bell that only rings for those who still believe.
